Meet Our Principal
Ms. Carin Geathers
Ms. Carin Geathers joined Burckhalter Elementary School in September 2008. It was her first year as a principal and she can't imagine leading another school.
Ms. Geathers is proud about leading the successful merger with Lakeview Elementary School in 2012 with her colleague Clara J. Roberts, which brought new students, families and a talented group of teachers who now make up the core group of educators at Burckhalter.
Burckhalter Elementary School was awarded the Distinguished Title I Award in 2011 and 2012, which recognizes schools who have students making significant gains in their academic achievement, especially underrepresented groups like African American and English Learners.
"My goal every day to ensue that all of our students are thriving - academically, socially, and physically. I want it to apparent, to anyone who walks through the door, that the students at Burckhalter are thriving."
Ms. Geathers started in OUSD in February 1989 as a first-year teacher at Grass Valley Elementary School teaching fourth, fifth, and sixth grade.
Originally from Hartford, Connecticut, Ms. Geathers moved to California to attend Mills College where she earned a Bachelor's of Art degree in Psychology. She also earned a Teacher Credential from Holy Names University and a Master's Degree in Urban Education and Administrative Credential from the University of California, Berkeley.
